Biography

Richard Taylor is Chairman and Managing Director of Greenhill & Co. International LLP, Greenhill's UK business.

He was formerly the Chairman of Barclays' Global Corporate and Investment Banking activities. He joined Barclays in 2011 as head of UK Investment Banking, and was subsequently promoted to run the bank’s Investment Banking Division in Europe, Middle East and Africa, and then the division on a global basis.

Richard began his career with Arthur Andersen, qualifying as a Chartered Accountant before moving into Investment Banking with HSBC. In 2000, he joined Merrill Lynch and worked in a variety of roles including co-heading the German Investment Banking activities and then head of UK Corporate and Investment Banking. Throughout his career, Richard has played leading roles in advising companies on mergers and acquisitions, equity and debt-related transactions.

In April 2024, Richard became a Non-Executive Director of Severn Trent Plc, and a member of the company’s Treasury, Remuneration, Audit and Risk and Nominations Committees.

Richard is the youngest of twelve children and a keen philanthropist. He serves on the Advisory Board for The Sutton Trust, a charity which champions social mobility from birth to the workplace in order that every young person has the chance to succeed in life. Additionally, he has given talks for Speakers for Schools, which seeks to end educational inequality and, since September 2022, has been a trustee of Teach First. Richard is also a Campaign Board Member of Historic Royal Palaces.
